Arson / Bomb Investigation

The Arson / Explosives
Investigation Unit is a part of the Fire Prevention Bureau under the
direction of the District Fire Chief. The Unit currently consists of a
Law Enforcement Coordinator/Arson-Bomb Investigator and two Fire/Arson
Investigators. The Unit is responsible for conducting investigations
from the origin and cause of the fire through arrest and conviction of
arson suspects.
All members of the Unit
are California peace officers pursuant to California Penal Code §830.37(a)
responsible for conducting and/or assisting in fire cause
investigations and special investigations, i.e. District vehicle
accidents, adverse damage claims, civil cases, destruction/theft of
District property. They interview witnesses and suspects, write
detailed investigation reports, prepare cases for presentation to the
District Attorney’s office. They take law enforcement action as cases
may require (i.e. issue citations, obtain complaints and make
arrests).
In addition to his
investigative duties, the Law Enforcement Coordinator is responsible
for developing and maintaining working relationships with
investigators and other personnel from federal, state and local law
enforcement and fire agencies.
Members of the Unit
participate in the San Diego County Fire-Arson Task Force assisting in
multi-agency investigations and operations, which may include:

Visible Deterrent Patrol
Photo-Camera Surveillance
Law Enforcement
Mutual Aid
