The Arson / Explosives Investigation Unit is a part of the Fire Prevention Bureau under the direction of the District Fire Chief. The Unit currently consists of a Law Enforcement Coordinator/Arson-Bomb Investigator and two Fire/Arson Investigators. The Unit is responsible for conducting investigations from the origin and cause of the fire through arrest and conviction of arson suspects.

All members of the Unit are California peace officers pursuant to California Penal Code §830.37(a) responsible for conducting and/or assisting in fire cause investigations and special investigations, i.e. District vehicle accidents, adverse damage claims, civil cases, destruction/theft of District property.
