EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
For the Position of
Fire
Captain or Fire Captain Paramedic


 

POSITION
Supervises Fire Engine company personnel, responds to emergency incidents, performs a variety of administrative, supervisory and technical work in the provision of Fire District services. Fire Captain Paramedic will also provide ALS patient care. This position will perform suppression, rescue and other functions as assigned and works under the general supervision of the Fire Chief.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Starting annual salary is $ 25,099 for a 56-hour workweek; other schedules may apply as determined by the Fire Chief.  2%@55 PERS Retirement plan, with the employees contribution paid by the District. Sick leave is accrued at 14 hours per month. Uniform allowance of $ 450 annually. Twelve holidays per year. Paid vacation 1 to 2 years service 144 hours, 3 to 5 years service 168 hours etc. Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance allowance of $ 500 per month. Educational allowance of $ 350 annually is available. Fire Captain Paramedic will receive a     $ 200 monthly incentive and $ 500 annual bonus; in addition the District pays continuing education and recertification costs.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Age

Minimum 18 years of age.
Training: California State Fire Officer, ICS 300, First Responder Haz-Mat.
Confined Space Awareness or equivalent.

Education:

High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Licenses:

Valid California Drivers License-Class “B”.   All employment opportunities are contingent upon establishing proof of individuals'  possession of a good driving record.

Certifications:

  • Valid California State Emergency Medical Technician 1 (EMT-1) cert.
  • or San Diego County EMT-P certification.
  • Valid American Red Cross (or) American Heart Association CPR cert.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS (Although not required at time of application)

Certifications:

California State Firefighter I and II, Rescue Systems I and II.

Education: College Level Fire Science courses

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Applications for Firefighter/Paramedic may be obtained at the East County Fire Protection District office, 1811 Suncrest Blvd., El Cajon 92021.  Or online at www.eastcountyfire.org
2. Applications must be submitted to the East County Fire Protection District office, 1811 Suncrest Blvd., El Cajon by September 19, 2003 at 5 p.m.   Postmarks not acceptable.
3. Application form provided by this District must be completed in full.
4. Review your application thoroughly for accuracy.  (e.g. did you sign and date your application?  Are all areas filled in completely?)
5. Applicants must submit a detailed resume; this should include information on work experience, certifications, community service.  A resume will not be accepted in lieu of the employment application.
6. Applicant must submit copies of:
(a) -
Current EMT-1 or Paramedic certification, and CPR certification.
(b) - Current California (Class “B”) Drivers License.
(c) - California State Fire Officer
(d) - ICS-300

(e) - California Department of Motor Vehicle Driving record report (not more than 90 days old)

SELECTION PROCESS

1. Applications will be closely reviewed for relevant education, experience and training.  Applications
must be detailed and complete for proper evaluation.
2. Failure to comply with the application procedure may result in immediate disqualification.

TESTING PROCESS

1. Applicants will be scheduled for a written examination. 
2. Successful applicants from the written examination will be scheduled for an assessment center.
3. Successful applicants from the assessment center will be scheduled for an oral interview. 
4. A Fire Chief’s oral interview will be scheduled. Qualified applicants will be interviewed individually, in groups of three as determined by the eligibility list.
5. Those applicants will disabilities needing reasonable accommodation for any portion of the testing process must notify the East County Fire Protection District office at least five (5) days in advance of the testing process.
