Often the fire department will have the utility services shut off or disconnected as a safety precaution and to prevent further damage to the structure and its contents.  The procedures for reestablishing utility services are as follows:

Electricity - An electrical inspector must check the writing to be sure it is safe before the power can be reconnected.  Contact: County of San Diego Building Department at (619)694-2960.  Remember, DO NOT operate wet or damp appliances.  Have an electrician check them first.  Electricity and water do not mix.

Water - The resident may turn this utility back on.  Use caution because fire may have damaged the plumbing, which my cause water damage to occur when pipes are again filled with water.

Natural Gas - DO NOT turn gas back on.  A San Diego Gas & Electric representative is available twenty-four hours a day to turn on the gas and relight the appliances for you call 800-411-3743

Propane Gas - DO NOT turn propane gas back on.  Contact your propane supplier.  A safety check will need to be conducted.
