Property Tax
Property which fire has extensively damaged may qualify for reevaluation and a reduction in the property tax assessment.

Information and applications are available from the San Diego County Assessor's Office (El Cajon Branch) at 200 E. Main St., Sixth Floor, El Cajon.

To qualify for property tax relief, you must file a Calamity Claim with the Assessor's Office within sixty days of the date the property was damaged or destroyed.  In addition, the loss must exceed $5,000.  Ask for Taxpayer's Calamity Claim for Calamity Reassessment.  Fill it out and return the form to the Assessor's Office.

Income Tax
Uninsured losses of property may entitle you to deductions on your income tax.  Information is available from the Office of Internal Revenue Service.  Call 800-424-1040
