Mildew is a
mold growth and will weaken or rot fabrics. Some ways to remove mildew
and mold are:
Clothing
- Wash stains with soap and water. Rinse well and dry. If stain
remains, use lemon juice and salt, or a solution of 1 tablespoon of per
borated bleach to 1 pint of lukewarm, or dilute a solution of chlorine
bleach. Test colored garments before using any treatment.
Upholstered
Articles, Mattresses and Rugs
1) Remove loose mold from surfaces by brushing with a broom. Do
this outdoors to prevent scattering mildew spores in the house.
2) Vacuum surfaces to draw out more of the mold.
3) Thoroughly dry by using an electric heater or fan to remove moist
air.
4) If mildew remains, sponge lightly with thick detergent using only
the foam. Wipe with clean, damp cloth.
5) If molds have grown into the inner part of an article, send it to
a reliable dry cleaner.
Removing
White Spots on Furniture
1) Rub with a cloth lightly dampened with turpentine or camphorated
oil. Wipe dry at once and polish with wax or furniture polish.
2) For deep spots, use a drop or two of ammonia on a damp cloth and
polish or rub a mixture vegetable oil and cigarette ashes into the white
spot with your fingertips.
